You already know I would be celebrating Denim Day no matter what it supported... hence, "the denim junkie." But today is about so much more than just jeans! Denim Day was started 18 years ago by Peace Over Violence, an organization based out of LA, in order to raise awareness for sexual assault. Why denim? An Italian Supreme Court in the '90s heard a rape case, and ruled that they victim's jeans were too tight and that she must have taken them off herself, implying consent. The women of the court were enraged, and wore jeans in solidarity with the victim, and thus Denim Day was born. in 1999, it became a global awareness day for sexual assault.

Being in college, this is something that affects women all around me. 1 in 3 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. WHAT? And it is even more likely on college campuses. Join me in wearing denim today to raise awareness and help end this crisis in America and across the globe. Use #denimday on all your pics, and give me a tag!
